A former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, on Sunday said that the demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) were unrealistic in light of the current economic situation in Nigeria. Ezekwesili said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan while reacting to the ongoing strike embarked upon by the union.
The former minister said that lasting solution to the crisis bedevilling the education sector could only be found from strong analysis of the issues raised by ASUU and evidenced based policies. According to her, a structural and policy change which allows public and private investments should be integrated into the university system.
“Money is not limitless and yet everyone must acknowledge that investment in education is crucial and it is key. There are, however, some fundamental reforms that the sector needs in order to ensure that it is not about the size of the funding but about the productivity of the funding. You cannot simply express a desire, it must be founded on reality and that means you must know what can be achieved within a given period,” she said.
For all of summer’s greats, including but not limited to fresh berries and long soleil-filled weekend getaways, the season has a funny way of taking an unwanted toll on skin. And while protection from the sun’s harsh rays is key, the dehydration, accumulated sweat, and daily layering of SPF can often lead to seriously blocked pores.
Fortunately, a slew of new over-the-counter products are sweeping the nation, and unlike retinol and other prescription acne treatments, this solution doesn’t make skin sensitive to the sun and still provides all the same bacteria-fighting benefits of its hardworking counterparts.
Long has blue light technology—“LED lights, or light emitting diodes, that have the power to penetrate the skin and heal from the inside out,” says Weill Cornell Medical College’s Michelle Henry, M.D.—reigned supreme at dermatologist offices worldwide, but now it arrives by way of affordable handheld spot treatments and device-activated face masks.
Want to reverse seasonal woes by targeting and shrinking oil glands and reducing inflammation? Try Neutrogena’s new two-minute, portable treatment zero-recovery-time apparatus in the comfort of your own home. “Plus,” adds Henry, “the devices also emit a slight amount of heat that when coupled with the light helps to diminish pore size.”
Both Android and iOS feature very useful tools that allow you to quickly locate your smartphone if it gets lost or stolen.Even if you are unable to recover the phone, you can still remotely lock it and wipe all your data.
The first step is to make sure that your device can be located.
In Android, go into Google Settings, then Security, and activate the option "Remotely locate this device", if it is not already turned on. Then you only have to connect to android.com/find with any Internet browser, whether on a computer or mobile device, to access real-time information on the location of your smartphone.
Other options allow you to have the phone ring to alert you of its location, or remotely lock it and erase all your information.
Some brands offer their own solutions, like Samsung with its "Find my mobile" function, which allows you to synchronise your smartphone with your Samsung account, and activate remote control and tracking.
In iOS, open "Settings", then iCloud, and activate "Find my iPhone". Then make sure that “Location Services” is turned on in your “Privacy” settings. Once this is done, in the event that your iPhone is lost or stolen, you can connect to icloud.com/find and sign in to your Apple account to see exactly where your phone is.
You can also do this using the "Find My iPhone" app using any other iOS device, once you have signed in with your Apple ID. You can then remotely lock your phone, have it play a sound, display a message, or erase all the data on it.
It goes without saying that these solutions will only work if your smartphone is turned on and connected (via a cellphone network or wifi). They also work for any other device that is connected to an Apple or Google account.
An infographic shows the working of a touchscreen. The beautiful graphic illustration also describes the types of touch screens currently used in most of the devices like smartphones, tablets, televisions, etc.
Touchscreen is a user input device implemented in various electronic devices ranging from smartphones, tablets, televisions, computers to digital control screens installed car dashboards. This type of input device requires physical contact between its touch sensitive part and the hand of the user, more precisely, the fingers. However, touchscreen even works if you try to use it with your foot or nose. They just require the contact of a human body part.
Touch screens are of two types:
Resistive – Touch is detected by pressure applied to the screen by a finger or stylus.
Capacitive – Touch is detected by the charge present in our finger. A special type of stylus is required for such screens.
Other types of touch screens also exist but the capacitive and resistive are the most popular type. Even the resistive type touch screens are becoming obsolete with time and they are inferior to the capacitive type.
Here’s an awesome infographic by How Stuff Works which will take you into the world touch screens:

Fitbit’s shares are not much more than 10% of
the highs it reached of $47.60 in July 2015, the month following its
public debut. On Wednesday, Fitbit closed $5.07, just barely a “unicorn”
at $1.16 billion in market value.
But the stock saw a rare boost after the company reported quarterly
earnings, sending shares up over 4% in initial after hours trading.
The company reported $353.3 million in revenue from selling 3.4
million devices, above the $341.6 million revenue that analysts
expected. But this is still a sharp drop from the $586.5 million in
revenue we saw in the same period last year. Adjusted losses of 8 cents
were much smaller than the negative 15 cents Wall Street was
forecasting, but last year Fitbit posted a profit at 12 cents.
Fitbit sales chart
When major players like Apple entered the space, Fitbit tried to send
the message that it was more than just a fitness tracker, but a
smartwatch as well. Fitbit released competitive products, but Wall
Street wasn’t convinced that it was good enough.
Fitbit CEO James Park insists that its next smartwatch will be the
big one. “Our smartwatch, which we believe will deliver the best health
and fitness experience in the category, is on track for delivery ahead
of the holiday season and will drive a strong second half of the year,”
he said in a statement.
No one knows for sure how Apple Watch sales are going since the
company hides it in the “other revenue” category, but CEO Tim Cook
announced on Tuesday that sales are up 50% from last year.
But one competitor that has not fared well is Jawbone. Originally seen as Fitbit’s biggest foe, the company is now getting liquidated.
Fitbit is still alive, but the company has had a difficult year with layoffs and production problems. The stock is down 63% since the same time last year.
Tesla has already completed the first
installations of its Solar Roof products, which use integrated solar
panels to gather energy. The solar tiles were first introduced last
year, and are designed to look essentially indistinguishable from
traditional roofing materials so that they present an aesthetically
attractive option to consumers who might shy away from traditional panel
designs.
The first installations have been made on Tesla employee homes, which
mirrors the way it’s distributing the very first Tesla Model 3
automobiles. This is partly a reward for their contribution to the
immense effort represented by bringing these things to market, but it’s
also likely a strategic decision that allows Tesla to test and monitor
its new products early on in their production life.
“I have it on my house, [Tesla co-founder] JB [Straubel] has it on
his house,” Elon Musk said on the call. He specified that the first
installations were already generating energy as well as being installed.
Tesla started pre-orders for Solar Roof installations during Q2, and
is offering a warranty for the lifetime of the house on which they’re
installed, “or infinity, whichever comes first.”
iPhone: Your iPhone has a built in world clock, but it kind of sucks.
Zones is not only a better alternative, it also packs in features
Apple’s option should have.
As
you’d expect, Zones lets you add a bunch of different time zones so you
can easily glance at the current time anywhere in the world. Better
still, you can change the time in any of those time zones to see what
time it’d be elsewhere. For example, you can set Tokyo to 2Pm on May 11
to see what time that would be in London, the New York, and Los Angeles.
There’s even a Today Widget so you can access all those times right on
your lock screen.
The
app is free out of the gate for four time zones, but you can pay an
in-app purchase to unlock new themes and an unlimited number of time
zones on the screen at once. Zones (Free/$2.99) | iTunes App Store
All you need to do to sign up for Project Fi is head to the sign up page
and log in with your Google account. From there, you’re on your way to
getting cell phone service started. The point of Project Fi is to keep
the pricing plan simple. For $20/month you get unlimited talk and text.
Then, you pay $10/month per GB of data and any unused data is credited
back to your account. As far as coverage is concerned, Project Fi
piggybacks off of T-Mobile and Sprint, so anywhere you can get coverage with those services, you’ll get with Project Fi. Project Fi only works with Google’s current line of Nexus phones, but as far as off-contract phone plans go, while it’s not the cheapest, the coverage is pretty strong.

I really like using groups on Facebook. I’m in a ton of different
writing groups where writers swap advice, as well as a few beer groups
where people swap, well, beer. One thing that has become painfully
obvious across both groups: a lot of people don’t fully understand how
Facebook works. There are a lot of odd offenses that pop up, but the one
that tends to bother me the most is when people respond to posts with
just the word “Following.”
People write “Following” as a
comment on posts presumably because they want to keep up with them. This
happens most often on posts where someone has asked a question that
those people would also like the answer to. Once you comment, you’re
default subscribed to the thread, so you’ll get a notification each time
someone comments.
It
seems like an ok solution, but the thing is, you also get a
notification each time some other person decides to write “Following.”
on the post as does every other person that’s commented. It’s annoying,
and Facebook actually has a feature that lets you do this without
notification spamming everyone in the conversation.
If you see
a post, be it on a friend’s wall or in a group, you’d like to keep
track of you can subscribe to get notifications by literally just
turning on notifications for the post. Here’s how to do it:
Go to the post in question, and then click the tiny arrow at the top right of it.
Select “Turn on notifications for this post” from the drop-down menu
That’s it. When you do that you’ll get a notification whenever anyone comments on the post.
The feature also works great in the reverse. I tend to run into issues
whenever I comment on someone’s new baby picture or engagement
announcement. When you comment, you get everyone else’s “Congrats!”
message sent your way as well. You can stop it by going to that same
drop down menu and selecting “Turn off notifications for this post.”
Your friend still gets your congratulatory message, but you don’t have
to read the hundreds of others that pour in after yours.
Videos on Facebook are about to get a whole lot louder. Thanks to the Facebook app’s upcoming update, videos will start playing sound automatically as you scroll through your feed. Here’s how to disable it.
Previously, you could only hear video sound if you tapped on the video in your Facebook News Feed. Now, as long as your device isn’t on silent mode, sound will fade in and out as you scroll through all of those food videos. It might be a welcome addition to some, but for the rest of us, it’s a new annoyance to deal with if you don’t already have video auto-play disabled.
If you don’t see the option, the update hasn’t rolled out to you yet. Check back later. Also, there are no ways to disable news feed sound on your desktop browser for now, so you’ll have to just disable videos from auto-playing entirely.
Microsoft really wants you to use the Edge browser on your Windows 10 laptop. If you don’t, you’ll get task-bar pop-ups advertising for it. It’s annoying. Here’s how to turn them off.
Every time I open Chrome, Windows tells me I’ll get better battery life if I use Edge instead. Thanks, but no thanks. I don’t care, I want to use Chrome. Stop pestering me Windows. If you feel the same way, here’s the fix:
Justin Beiber makes headlines again, after using his Jeep to
ram a photographer taking his pictures while he was leaving the Church.
It seems Christianity as a Celebrity is becoming a whole lot of stree
for him as he has been bouncing from one situation to another. First
was when he was banned from performing in China for his bad behavior
(that must have hurt) and the next was canceling the remainder of his
Purpose Tour to allegedly focusing on being spiritual by attending
Church activities.
While he was leaving the City Church in Beverly Hills on Wednesday night, Justin rammed into a paparazzi with his Truck as he was driving out of the church.
Lt. Scott Dowling of the Beverly Hills Police Department says the
accident occurred outside the Saban Theater at 9:24 p.m. According to
Lt. Dowling, the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was
transported to Cedars-Sinai hospital.
According to a source on the scene, Justin Bieber, was trying to
drive away from the church but a slew of photographers was at the end of
the driveway. “He tried to scare away the paparazzi but as he neared the group,
he accidentally hit one of the photographers who were in his path.’
As at this moment, it is not fully confirmed if the photographer would be suing the Canaddian singer.
Jeff Bezos, owner of online retail giant Amazon.com, surpassed Bill Gates as the richest man in the world on Thursday.
According to Forbes, Bezos emerged as the the richest person in the world, with a fortune topping $90 billion for the first time ever.
When markets opened on Thursday, Bezos had a net worth of $90.6
billion, putting him $500 million ahead of Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Amazon stock opened up 1.6% on Thursday, adding $1.4 billion to
Bezos’ net worth. That was enough to put him ahead of Gates, who was
last surpassed on Forbes’ real-time rankings for just two days nearly a
year ago by Spanish retail giant Amancio Ortega.
Forbes started tracking billionaires around the globe in 1987.
Bezos is now the seventh person to hold the title of the world’s richest
person and the third American to top the global ranks besides Gates and
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett.
The Joint Admission and matriculation board – JAMB – has warned candidates who wish to effect changes on either their course and institution or make corrections on any of their data that it the process can only be done twice.

The issue of files getting lost or corrupted is a hot topic on many
online forums. At some point or the other, you might have lost a file to
accidental deletion, corruption or circumstances you can’t explain. I
myself recall those dark days when i would save my favorite songs on my
256 MB MP3 player (256 MB of then felt like the 100 GB of now) and then
for reasons unknown, they would just stop playing and I would have to
format my beloved MP3 player then start the music hunt from scratch;
tragic! If you have been through a similar or worse experience, then i
shall – in this tutorial – explain how to recover corrupted files or
lost files so you can say goodbye to such bitter occurrences. What is a corrupted file?
A corrupted file is a computer file that has become unreadable,
unusable, maliciously altered or inoperable to your computer (be it a
laptop / desktop PC, mobile device etc). In other words, your computer
either can’t recognize such a file and thus, tags it as void or is
running a malicious file instead of the original. What could cause a file to get corrupt?
Sincerely, there are quite a number of reason why files get corrupted. Common reasons are:
Bug in the Software that created the file: The software which
created the file in question might have experienced a run time error
while saving or creating the file.
Virus or Malware: Malware or virus might corrupt certain programs or
damage the file system itself. For this reason, new or existing files
might experience a modification which would leave them corrupted.
Improper unmounting: This usually occurs when an external storage
device (SD Card, USB stick, External Hard Disk etc) is suddenly
disconnected from your computer while actively in use or without using
the safely remove or eject option.
Error occurring during reading, storage, writing, transmission or
processing of files: Interruption of data transmission ( like a poor
wireless connection or environmental conditions like rain) and hardware /
software failure are also common causes of corrupted files.
Power outages or other power-related problems.
Hardware problems or failures i.e hard drive failures, bad sectors, bad RAM, and the likes.
Crash dumps or poor programming which could result in a hard restart or incorrectly saved data.
How do I know when a file is corrupted ?
File corruption could either be of the detected or undetected type.
The detected types are the ones you would usually notice due to error
messages while the undetected types are silent (could be dangerous)
alterations which still leave the file undamaged. There are some general
indicators of a corrupted file:
If you try to run or open the file using a program which should be
able to read it but can’t or you get an error message then the file is
likely corrupted.
If you try to delete the file and your computer pops up a ‘…could
not recognize…’ error message and isn’t able to delete the file then the
file is likely corrupted.
An altered checksum can also be used to identify a corrupt file.
My files just vanished without me deleting them, why?
It is possible they have been accidentally deleted or hidden from you either by a malware or by a user of the computer. Why do my files keep getting corrupt whenever I try to move them?
This mostly points to an already corrupt or damaged storage device
(SD card, USB stick, HDD etc). It is important you repair the storage device ( See how-to-fix-repair-corrupt-memory-card-sd-card-or-usb-drive/) which you have been attempting to transfer your files to without success. It is sometimes due to a malware infected PC. How do I prevent my files from getting corrupted ?
Avoid forced-shutdowns i.e shutting down by holding down the power button.
Ensure to use the ‘safely remove’ or ‘eject’ option before disconnecting a USB device.
Avoid hibernating or sleeping your PC for too long
Run regular checks and maintenance on your storage devices
Have a strong and updated antivirus installed on your PC
Whenever you get an error while trying to run a file, ensure to troubleshoot
Be wary of the kinds of software you install ( PC optimizers, RAM boosters etc)
Allow files to finish cloying or downloading before using
How do i prevent my files from getting lost ?
The most reliable approach is to frequently backup your files to an
external storage device ( SD Card, USB stick, external HDD etc) for easy
retrieval in case of data loss. Also, avoid using SHIFT+DEL on your PC,
use just DEL instead so that deleted files will be sent to the Recycle
bin from which they can easily be restored. Can corrupt files harm my device?
This would depend on the file in question. If the corrupted file is
an important OS file, or a file corrupted by a virus then you might want
to have the issue rectified asap because your PC is at risk. If however
it is just some media file which got corrupted due to improper handling
then its harmless to your PC, you only lose the file. How can I recover corrupted files / lost files?
Data recovery comes in very handy when you find yourself in such a mess. Here are a few good methods: How to fix a faulty storage drive using CHKDSK
The chkdsk command helps scan a drive for errors and fix if specified. To use chkdsk:
Connect the storage device to a safe PC and wait for it to be recognized
Open ‘My Computer’ and note the storage device’s drive letter (e.g I , G or H)
Press your windows button and search for cmd.exe
Right-click on it and run it as Administrator
If the storage drive letter is G, type chkdsk /f G: then press Enter (note the spaces)
How to recover files turned to shortcuts by the recycler virus The recycler virus is responsible for
those times when all your files get replaced by their shortcuts which
would all be the same size alongside some other shortcuts like porn,
sexy etc. To fix this:
Connect the storage device to a safe PC and wait for it to be recognized
Open ‘My Computer’ and note the storage device’s drive letter (e.g I , G or H)
Press your windows button and search for cmd.exe
Right-click on it and run it as Administrator
Type G: and press enter (where G is the drive letter from the second step above)
Type attrib -r -a -s -h /s /d and press enter (*Note: put a space between each item like -r space -a space -s ……)
Wait for the process to finish running then go to your storage device
All your files should have been returned.
Delete any folder called recycler
How to show hidden files and folders It is possible that your files have been hidden from view either by another user or a malware. To show hidden files:
Tap the windows button or click the start button.
Search for Folder Options.
Click it when found.
Click the View tab.
Tick or check Show hidden files, folders and drives .
Click OK then Apply
How to search for a file using its extension Its possible that the files are still
on your computer but their locations have changed. You can search for a
file using its extension (last 3 characters after the “.” in the file
name). To do this:
Tap the windows button or click the start button.
Search for .avi for movies of type avi
A list of .avi movies will be shown to you
Click ‘See more’ to view all .avi files
You could search for .mp4 , .mp3 , .jpg , .3gp, .png etc
How to recover lost files using data recovery software
Data Recovery Software can help you recover lost files even after
they have been deleted and the drive formatted. You can try Icare Data
Recovery, Recuva or TestDisk . How can I repair corrupted files?
There are a number of approaches you could apply to repair corrupt
files. One valuable tool in repairing corrupt OS files is the SFC /
SCANNNOW command. To run it:
Press the windows button or click the start menu.
Search for cmd.exe
Right-click on it and run as Administrator
Click Yes or enter your Admin password if prompted for it
Type SFC /SCANNOW (*Note: Ensure to leave a space between SFC and /)
Press Enter
Your files will then be scanned and repaired if necessary. It may take 10 or 20 minutes, depending on your system
Sometimes, files aren’t saved with the correct file extension after
download or transfer. For example, a movie file (.avi) might have been
saved as .txt. Changing the file extension of such a file could fix the
issue. Also, File-repair is a good tool but if it can’t repair a file of
your choice then it means you need a file-format specific repair tool.
You can request for such a tool at the HOVATEKFORUM and ensure to state the file type you wish to repair.

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been named Portugal’s Player of the Year for 2016.
Ronaldo led his country to their first major title at the European Championship last summer.
He beat club teammate Pepe and Sporting goalkeeper Rui Patricio to the prize.
The 32-year-old forward also led Real Madrid to their 11th Champions League triumph last May, converting the winning penalty to secure the title ahead of Atletico Madrid.
He also finished as the competition’s top scorer with 16 goals.
Ronaldo sustained early injury in the Euro 2016 final against hosts France, but Portugal pushed on to win the game in extra-time, marking the national team’s greatest-ever triumph at the Stade de France last July.
Ronaldo said at the Quinas de Ouro gala on Monday, “It was a very special year for me because the Euros was the only trophy I was still missing.
“I want to thank the Portuguese people again, they gave us confidence on our way to the title.”
Other award-winners on the night included Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches, who won the best young player award.
National team manager, Fernando Santos was named coach of the year.
Ever heard of vulvodynia? It’s a condition that causes chronic pain, rawness or irritation that comes and goes, burning and sensitivity in the vulva – that outer part of the v*gina.
Gynaecologists say many things can be responsible for vulvodynia, otherwise known as v*gina depression. They are as follow…
1. Washing with too much soap: Any type of soap, however gentle, can be irritating to the labia, says a Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Mary Jane Minkin.
“The less (soap) you use, the better. Once a day or after a gym session, work up a small lather from a soap made with no dyes or fragrances, which can itch or burn,” says Minkin.
2. Getting a tattoo on or near v*gina: Tempted to get a tattoo below the belt? Consider how it might affect your v*gina. Having a tattoo done anywhere on your anatomy can trigger redness and inflammation, but your v*ginal area has the most sensitive skin of your entire body, says Minkin.
So, you’re practically asking for a rash and itchy irritation. Even the cheap dye from a temporary tattoo can have the same effect, she says. So, get body art on your ankle, arm, or back instead.
3. Lubricating it with baby oil: So, you’re ready for s*x, and to get things going quick, you rub on some baby oil or another petroleum jelly product. Hmmm! Your v*gina isn’t going to be happy.
Oil-based lubricants are thicker and don’t wash out very easily, so they can get stuck in your v*ginal canal and eventually trap bacteria along with it, resulting in infection, says Minkin. Stick with silicone- or water-based lube instead. Because they wash out easily, they make your vagina smile.
4. Not taking off your gym clothes after a workout: As you lounge around in your sweaty gym pants, bacteria are breeding like crazy, thanks to all that perspiration your below-the-belt region produces (your v*ginal area is packed with sweat glands, you know).
If bacteria get into your vaginal canal, they can upset the balance of the microbes that normally live there and cause a yeast infection, says Minkin.
Change out of your sweaty, stinky gear as soon as you can, and take a quick shower to wash away the sweat that allows infection-causing bugs to thrive.
A man who underwent a vasectomy has been left with a horrific condition that makes him unable to have s*x.
A 30-year-old man has been left unable to have s*x and faces having both of his testicles removed after a botched vasectomy.
According to The Sun UK, the man, identified as Daniel and a father of five, has only managed to have s*x with his wife Sara once in the last four years.
Even then, he ended up in hospital in excruciating pain, reports say.
Daniel had undergone a vasectomy in 2012, an irreversible surgery that sterilizes men and makes them unable to impregnate a woman again.
David had his first child at 19, and is father to four girls and a boy. He has been unable to have four four years since he had the procedure.
He said his injuries have left him in “constant and unbearable agony” and the operation has “destroyed his life.”
David reportedly had a vasectomy in Nottingham in January 2012, but said that the 12 anaesthetic injections he was given failed to work and that he “could feel everything” while the surgery lasted.
Four years later, he suffers from sharp shooting pains through his groin and into his stomach.
Doctors have told David, that he is “suffering from post-vasectomy pain syndrome.”
The condition is a known complication of the surgery, but the cause of it can be unclear.
Experts believe it’s triggered by various scenarios, one of which is a build-up of scar tissue in the area.
A leak of sperm into the testicle tissue can also cause the pain, by triggering intense inflammation as the body sees the sperm as a foreign body.
Other theories include nerve damage caused during the surgery, and interrupting the natural drainage of sperm.
David said the pain was so bad he has had to take morphine tablets for the past three years.
The doting dad, who was driven to a suicide by his condition, is on a waiting list to have an operation where his scrotum will be pumped full of anti-inflammatory drugs.
If that doesn’t work, he will have both of his testicles removed.
Speaking exclusively to the Sun Online, David said: “They can take my testicles for all I care. I just want the pain to be over.
“They can take them like a dog, I just want to be free of the pain.”
Bastian Schweinsteiger has admitted he is sad to be leaving Manchester United after Chicago Fire confirmed he had joined them.
The MLS club are offering him a one-year contract worth £70,000 a week – which will make him one of the 10 highest-paid players in the MLS – after agreeing a deal with United late on Monday night.
Sky Sports News HQ understands Schweinsteiger is still in the United Kingdom and will jet out to Chicago to complete a medical once he obtains a work permit and a working visa.
“I am sad to leave so many friends at Manchester United,” Schweinsteiger told United’s official website. “But I am grateful to the club for allowing me the chance to take up the challenge at Chicago Fire.
“I have enjoyed working with the manager, the players and staff here and wish them all the best in the future. But I have to reserve special thanks to the United fans – whose support has been a very special part of my time in Manchester.
“I was delighted to be part of the squad that won the FA Cup for them last season and will always remember their energy and their passion. Now is the right time for me to start a new chapter in Chicago and I am looking forward to it.”
