Google doodle marks 140 years Test cricket with playful sketch

In an era of T20 cricket, many may have sounded the death knell for Test matches, the longest format of the popular sport, but for aficionados it is still the format in which they see classical sportsmanship. And while several of us may have seen countless Test matches, cheering our home teams, not many would have spared a thought to wonder when the first match of this kind was played.
Well, giving us this little nugget of information, the guys over at the Google doodle team have come up with a fun imagery that commemorates the first officially recognised Test cricket match that took place today between the established English side and a newly formed Australian team. The match was played between March 15 and 19 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, in which Australia won by 45 runs. But England won the second match to draw the series at 1:1. The rivalry between the English and Australian teams, forged on the field, endures to this day.
According to the official statement, “Today’s Doodle hits the deck with a lighthearted rendering that captures the spirit of sportsmanship and the inaugural test match. Mustachioed and musclebound, the batsmen, bowlers and opposition fielders spring into action, never losing sight of the red ball.”
Interestingly, though, going by the representational map provided by Google, the reach of the doodle is restricted to India and Australia, excluding even England, which was one of the teams to actually play that first match back in 1877.

Leicester in the Champions League quarter-finals: The miracle goes on

Leicester City added a new layer to their amazing story by knocking out Sevilla in the Champions League. These players should never be written off again, writes Adam Bate.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are there. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund too. Juventus joined them in the quarter-finals on Tuesday evening. Five clubs, European Cup winners one and all with 24 triumphs between them. They are joined in the last eight by Leicester City.
Last year's miracle men, the team one win clear of the Premier League relegation zone, did for dark horses Sevilla on yet another crazy night at the King Power. "This is the greatest night in Leicester City's history," former Foxes striker Tony Cottee told Sky Sports.

‘Let’s make peace bridge between India and Pak’: 11-year-old Pakistani girl’s letter to PM Modi is going viral

Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) historic mandate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, an eleven year old Pakistani school girl wrote to him saying that he should now focus towards winning more hearts of Indians and Pakistanis alike, by becoming a bridge of peace between the two nations.
In her letter, Aqeedat Naveed highlighted on the need for peace between India and Pakistan, and said that Prime Minister Modi can help speed up the process, reports DunyaNews.
“Once my father told me that winning of hearts is a marvelous job. Perhaps you have won the hearts of Indian people, therefore you won the election in UP. But I must tell you if you want to win more Indian and Pakistani hearts, you should take steps towards friendship and peace. Both countries need good relation. Let’s make a peace bridge between India and Pakistan. Let’s decide that we will not buy bullets, will buy books. We will not buy the guns, will buy the medicine for the poor people,” Aqeedat wrote in the two page letter.
She further emphasized that the choice between peace and conflict lies open for both the nations, and signed off by congratulating the Prime Minister for the UP Polls victory.
The fifth grader, who hails from Lahore, had earlier written a letter to Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj as well on the matter of peace and has also received several responses from officials in New Delhi.

Buhari Is “Over Ready” To Resume Duties – Osinbajo Says

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo says he has handed back the reins of power to President Muhammadu Buhari who is more than ready to resume duties.
Buhari travelled to the UK in January for medical treatment, leaving Osinbajo to act as president for over 50 days.
“He held a meeting with me for over an hour where we discussed a wide range of issues so his readiness for work is not in doubt at all. In fact, he is over-ready,” Osinbajo said on Monday after holding a one-hour meeting with Buhari.
“He is very well. We just had a very long meeting where basically trying to bring the president up to speed as to some of the things we have done while he was away‎. And he has given a few directives on what we should be doing on so many areas, the north-east, budget, the economy, a wide range of issues.”
Osinbajo said having handed over his principal, “I’m back to my regular position as vice-president.”
The VP said was Buhari was “reasonably satisfied” with his performance during the medical vacation.
He was asked on the possibility of being given more powers by the president who is obviously still recuperating.
“I think the president as you know has always given me several responsibilities. I think what we must recognise is that the way this administration works is that it has always been team work. Very little is done without the president’s clearance,” he said.
“So, generally speaking even with responsibilities that are my constitutional responsibilities, we have full discussions on them, we have full agreements on all of those issues. It is necessarily delegation, yes in some cases delegation but by and large practically everything I discuss fully with him and have his endorsement before we are able to go on and do anything at all.”

Barca Vs PSG Match Could Be Replayed As Online Petition Hits Over 200,000 Signatures

Heavy pressure is currently being mounted on UEFA for the replay of the Barca-PSG Champions league encounter which recorded controversial incidents.
A petition demanding that Barcelona’s Champions League second leg match with PSG be replayed has garnered over 200,000 signatures online according to a recent update by Goal.com as at 10:11am, 13th of March, 2017 – Nigerian time.
Barcelona overcame a four-goal deficit from the first leg in Paris to triumph 6-1 in the Nou Camp and book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The match, which saw Barcelona score three goals in the last five minutes, was hailed as ‘the greatest comeback in football history’ as Sergi Roberto’s stoppage time finish capped off a miraculous performance.
But one Real Madrid fan has demanded the tie be replayed due to the performance of referee, Deniz Aytekin. Aytekin was heavily criticised for his performance in the Nou Camp after he gave two controversial penalties for Barcelona and turning down PSG’s appeals for a spot-kick when Javier Mascherano slid in on Angel Di Maria.
Real Madrid fan, Luis Melendo Olmedo, has set up the petition on change.org and has asked that Uefa strike the result from the record.
Olmedo cites “incidents that seriously damaged PSG as a result of the German referee Deniz Aytekin, who gave Barcelona an advantage with his refereeing decisions” as the inspiration behind the petition.
Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano admitted he had fouled Di Maria in the penalty area with the Argentine closing in on goal.

“I made contact with Di María. It’s obvious it was a foul. I’m not going to lie about it,” he told Spanish newspaper AS.

Despite the number of people who have already signed the petition, the absence of any such appeal from PSG means there is no prospect of UEFA ordering an unprecedented replay.
Barcelona’s hopes of winning La Liga were dealt a devastating blow on Sunday evening as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to 17th placed Deportivo La Coruna.
Luis Enrique was forced to make five changes to the team that beat PSG on Wednesday as Alex Bergantinos’s 74th minute goal was enough to consign the defending champions to a shock defeat.
The result leaves Barcelona one point clear of Real Madrid at the top of the table, but Zinedine Zidane’s side have two games in hand and will replace their rivals as La Liga leaders with a victory on Sunday evening.

Secondary School Closed Over Students Marriages Among Themselves In Bauchi State

The Bauchi State government has ordered the closure of one of its schools after the discovery of secretly arranged marriages among its students.
The order for the closure was contained in a statement issued by Yakubu Adamu, the Special Assistant on Communication to the state Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Education, Engineer Nuhu Gidado.
“I directed the immediate closure of the school on Friday, 10th March 2017 after being notified about the issue,” Gidado said, adding that a committee comprising all directors in the state Ministry of Education, the school authority, teachers as well as the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school had been constituted to investigate the matter.
The discovery of the students’ ‘mock marriages’ was made at the Sa’adu Zungur Model School, a primary and secondary school located in Bauchi metropolis.
Some senior male and female students of the school were said by sources to have been conducting illegal marriages among themselves within the school.
Daily Trust gathered that male students usually pay token sums ranging from N500 as dowry to their female counterparts for their marriages while classmates of the ‘grooms and brides’ contribute money to purchase snacks consumed at the ceremonies.
The sources revealed that male and female students study in separate classes, and the attention of the teachers was drawn to the illegal marriages only last week.
A source said an SS two student organized a wedding ceremony between him and his girlfriend who was also a senior student, and it was during the celebration that the teachers’ attention was drawn when they heard noises which indicated a celebration and rushed to the venue to behold what was happening.
The matter was later reported to the school principal, Malam Ahmed Zailani who consulted the state Ministry of Education.

Amazing! Checkout The Nigerian College That Produces 100 Pilots In 5 Years

The International Aviation College (IAC), Ilorin, says it produced more than 100 licenced commercial and private pilots in the last five years.
The Rector of the college, Cpt. Abdul Abdulkareem disclosed this during a media interaction on Monday in Ilorin.
Abdulkareem, who conducted journalists on tour of facilities at the institution, said that the school had come a long way and achieved so much within a short period of existence.
According to him, the products of the college are now engaged by various airline operators in the country and beyond.
The rector asserted that IAC remained the only a one stop-shop station for pilots training in the sub-Sahara Africa.
“Talking about the courses and I want to reiterate it and please quote that IAC today is the only school in Africa that has a one stop-shop station for pilots training.
“That means both fixed and rotary wing. It has been approved by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to the training for helicopter and fixed wing. We are the only one in Africa,” he said.
Abdulkareem said that the college, which flagged off in 2012, had put Kwara on the global map before the advent of cargo terminal.
He explained that the college could now boost of seven aircrafts from the four it started with some years back.
He noted that the IAC had partnered many stakeholders in the aviation sector, including Briton, Shell Nigeria, Navy Holding, Aero Contractor, to bring enabling environment into the sector.
The aviation expert claimed that the college was 100 per cent owned and controlled by the Kwara Government.
He urged well-meaning individuals to sponsor students for pilots training, noting that many politicians had done that for empowerment.

So Unfortunate!! SON Nabs Wine Importer Who Allegedly Changed Products’ Expiry Dates

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria has arrested a cosmetics and wine importer suspected of changing the expiry dates on products and putting new dates on them to mislead buyers.
The importer, Mr. Joseph Udeh, owner of Jouf Nigeria Limited, located at No. 10 Faith Street, off Comfort Oboh Street, Kirikiri Road, Apapa, Lagos is said to be a major dealer in popular cosmetics and home product brands.
When our correspondent visited his resident with the enforcement team from the SON, she observed that the importer converted two four-storey residential buildings, each containing eight rooms into storage facilities for products.
A closer look at some of the cosmetics revealed varying expiry dates, some dating as far back as 2004 while some had expired in 2013 and some in 2016.
Udeh whose shop is located at Balogun Market, Trade Fair complex, told our correspondent on the sideline that he was a supplier to major retail outlets and some of the major department stores in Nigeria.
Justifying the presence of so many expiry goods in his ‘warehouse,’ he said he had made several calls to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, seeking to destroy the goods but the agency had been slow in responding.
“We invite NAFDAC every year to come and destroy the expired goods but they do not come as often as we need them to and sometimes when they come, they would insist on destroying only a limited number, two truckloads of goods, maybe,” he said.
But the agency denied knowledge of Udeh and his summons. Speaking in response to a phone inquiry by our correspondent, the Public Relations Officer of NAFDAC, Mrs. Christy Obiazikwor, said the man was using NAFDAC excuse to cover up for his crime.
“What he is saying is not even logical. If he invited NAFDAC to destroy the products, why is he then changing label on them?” she said.
Addressing journalists shortly after the operation, the Head, Inspectorate and Compliance, SON, Mr. Bede Obayi, who represented the Director General, SON, Mr. Osita Aboloma, said the importer would face the full wrath of the law.
“The volume of the goods that expired is inestimable. They are worth millions of naira. We are going to carry out further investigations and process of recall to use those people that they have supplied, the status of the products and the expiry dates.”
“We have our offices throughout the nation and we are going to escalate the recall process immediately when we get all the details of their transactions. Anywhere we find these products in circulation, SON must get there to pick them at the cost of this importer. SON can no longer tolerate this nefarious act and people who are out to kill Nigerians in the name of merchandise.
“This is not acceptable to SON and we cannot take this.” Aboloma further stated, “Imagine a product that should be used in wrapping up a baby in 2017 has expired in 2015, what will be the effect on the baby, of course it would be negative reaction on the baby. We have baby powders that have expired since 2013 and four years after, the products are still going into the market. When they sell, they remove the expiry dates and put new dates to deceive the unsuspecting consumers and when you buy these products, you think they are products that can help you, not knowing that they are products that would cause you all sorts of diseases.”
According to the SON official, many innocent people suffer without knowing the root causes of their illnesses, maintaining that the importer of these expired products are killing and robbing innocent Nigerians ‎of their hard-earned money.

Ha! Lecturer Slaps Unilorin SUG President For Mediating On Behalf Of Students

The drama ensued at the UNILORIN C.B.T center when a lecturer from the faculty of engineering slapped Comrade Shobowale Lukman (Eminent), the Students Union President, while he was mediating on behalf of some students who were inappropriately delayed in writing their exams.
At about 4:20pm, some students from the department of Nursing, College of health sciences who have been waiting since around 9am, approached the students union president to intercede on their behalf in a bid to write their examinations after a long wait.
The students union president, in the spirit of solidarity, proceeded to the appropriate body with the aim of dialoguing with the exam coordinators, so the 50 Nursing students write their exams to prevent them from missing the bus scheduled to take them back to their faculty.
It was in this process that the Sub-dean, faculty of engineering, Dr. Ajiboye slapped him after he politely approached and introduced himself while trying to meet with the C.B.T Secretary, Dr. Tomori.
Dr. Ajiboye then rudely shooed him off and while he (Eminent) stepped aside, to converse with his colleague, the said lecturer approached him and questioned him as to why he decided to murmur after he has spoken and he then slapped him.

This resulted in an uproar from the students and it took the quick thinking of Students Union president to calm the already angry students who were ready to cause a bigger scene at the center.
Dr. Ajiboye’s action has really violated the ethics of the school, and the situation should be looked into by the disciplinary committee, in a bid to forestall future occurrences.
While we spoke to some students, who witnessed the scene, many described it as an”aberration and an injustice” on the part of the lecturer, as that would not be the first time such act would be perpetrated by either teaching and non-teaching staffs of the school.

Hackers Versus Cyber Criminals: Know the Difference

People are often confused between two terms: hackers and cyber criminals. In this article, I’m sharing a video that tells you the difference between these two.
Cyber crime occurs when breaking into the private worlds of people, these bad hackers start to misuse the information for their own benefit and loss of others. The story of hacking and cyber crime goes back to early 1950s when some phone freaks, commonly known as “phreaks”, started hijacking world’s phone networks and making long-distance calls.
A report sponsored by the security firm McAfee estimates the annual damage to the global economy due to cyber crimes at $445 billion and near about $1.5 billion was lost in the year 2012 due to online debit and credit card fraud in the US.
According to me, there are two types of hackers: good hackers and bad hackers. The bad hackers are the ones who commit cyber crime.  Here’s a video that shows how Darren Kitchen, a hacker and the host of tech show Hak5, tells how hacking is different from cyber crime:

Insane Robot Solves Rubik’s Cube In “Just 0.637 Seconds”, Breaks Guinness World Record

The Guinness World Record has recently confirmed that the Sub1 Reloaded robot is the new world record holder for solving the Rubik’s Cube in just 0.637 seconds. This happened at an event organized by a German self-driving chip maker Infineon whose microcontroller helped the robot arrange the sides of the cube in the correct order. Last year, a robot named Sub1 Reload solved the famous Rubik’s Cube puzzle in just 0.637 seconds at an event organized by a German company Infineon, a self-driving car chip maker. Since then, it was expected that the robot would set a new Guinness World Record by breaking its own existing record of 0.887 seconds.

Google Wants To Become The Best Search Engine For Programming Languages

Back in April 2016,  Bing implemented the executable snippet feature in its search results. It made it easier for the programmers to look for code and make changes to it right in the search engine results page.
Earlier this month, Google received a minor update that will make the search experience of programmers even better. As a result of these changes, now the search queries with sequences of 2-3 special characters (== vs === OR +=) will give results on the basis of the meaning of these sequences in programming languages.

In its blog post, Google mentions that if you’ll search for C++17, you won’t get the results of c17, the famous Boeing airplane. Instead, you’ll get the results from the programming world. Similarly, looking up for product and company names with punctuation, like Notepad++ and She++, will produce more accurate search engine results.
With this update, Google has taken one more step to become the best search resource for programmers. Google promises to bring some more improvements in near future.
Did you find this change in Google search interesting? Don’t forget to share your views with us.
