Manchester City got away with a scare. Captain Vincent Kompany nearly crashed while being on a charter plane at Norwich Airport, according to the BBC.

The Belgian skipper was unhurt after the private aircraft left the runway before coming to a standstill before take off. Kompany was accompanied by his representative and three others on board. Luckily nobody got hurt.

“The airport remained open to helicopter traffic. The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed, which is standard practice,” the airport announced in a statement.

“It was at a fairly low speed of its departure at which point it veered off the runway, for reasons which we have some guesses,” Phil Brockwell (Centreline Air) said.

Kompany is currenlty out with an injured calf. The Belgian had been in East Anglia to watch City’s FA Cup match against Norwich. The Citizens won 3-0, with goals from Sergio Agüero, Kelechi Iheanacho and Kevin De Bruyne.

City couldn’t have afforded missing their skipper for a longer period of time. It took them untill December 29 (0-0 against Leicester) to keep a clean sheet without Kompany
